Baby Grace Anne Engemann arrived on March 15, 2008. She weighed 9 lbs. 1 oz. and was 21 inches long. She is just the most beautiful baby. I realize I am biased, but who cares! She has a full head of brown hair and blue eyes.
We came home on St. Patrick's Day. Life has definitely been interesting since...She loves to sleep (during the day, of course). Yesterday we went to the doctor for the first time. She had already gained an ounce since leaving the hospital and was 1/2 an inch longer. She didn't have too much fun at the doctor's office...all cold and hungry. When the doctor put the popsicle stick thing in her mouth to check inside, she began to suck on it. That was our sign she was going to need to be fed before leaving. I had to go the restroom the whole time she was being checked, so as soon as the doctor left I went to the restroom quickly, then back to nurse her. On my way back to the room (Ryan was with her during this time), I went into the wrong exam room...a little embarrassing to say the least...I didn't pay attention to the room number we were in but I did note that we were in the second room in that hallway...not paying attention to the fact that the first room was an office not an exam room, so I marched right into exam room 2 which had a screaming kid in it...I figured it was mine...Oops!
The first couple nights home she had a hard time sleeping at night...I know this is normal, but my body was not used to it. Thank goodness my mom has been here to help out! We would have never survived otherwise. Last night, though, she started her same pattern of sleep or lack there of...but after two or three feedings and trying everything to get her to settle down my mom decides to take her for a while. Everytime I came to the rescue, which is what Gracie wanted, only added to the restless night. Mom decides the cycle has to break. Mom got her to fall asleep and she slept for a little over 4 hours without waking up one time! We were all so excited. We checked on her a few times each thinking something must be wrong...but no...she was just sleeping. She did wake up when Ryan was getting up to get ready for work, but that was fine. To be able to sleep from 1:30 or 2 am all the way till 6 am was great! We will just have to see if history can repeat itself tonight!

hopefully i'll be able to come to Missouri in a couple weeks. i'll take baby-duty one night. when she starts to cry i'll just start into a 'dad' story. by the 20th or 30th unnecessary detail she should be fast asleep.
I am so happy for you and Ryan! She is absolutely beautiful. I wish you and your new family the very best. Miss you!!
what a beauty! she looks alot like you did lindsey (sorry ryan). sorry to have to tell you this but you probably will never get a good nights sleep the rest of your life! once we have a baby they are always our baby and will always cause us sleepless nights. can't wait to see her up close and hold her tight! love you all!
Mitchell, Ryan tried the dad story thing...she wasn't too interested in the Cardinals stories he was telling!
Gracie is starting to sleep in longer chunks of time now...but I do understand what you mean, Aunt Linny, sometimes I get nervous when she hasn't made enough noise!
